INCOMPETENT and avoiding me, Jim Sawyer, the owner of Performance King Machine Shop personally rebuilt one of my Cigarette boat engines, with a 502 Mercury Racing, Chevy block. After the Mercury dealer installed the engine, they couldn’t get it to run over 4,000 RPM. Jim at Performance King tried to diagnose the issue, but couldn’t identify the problem, believing it was an electrical issue, he recommended I return to the Mercury dealer. After weeks of exhaustive testing, they discovered two internal engine problems. The cam was installed with the timing marks off by 31 degrees (Jim lined up the wrong marks) and the valve springs were missing the cups. Hard to believe it ran, but it had no power. Jim said he would do the right thing and apologized for causing the problem and was very embarrassed that he personally made such huge mistakes on my engine. After a week I called Jim and he said he would send out a check for most of the repairs. After a few more weeks, I called and he got mad and said he was busy and would send a check when he had time. The best Machine Shop ever – Bar none. In all the 55 years that I’ve been around cars and engines, I’ve never come across a Machine shop that comes close to Performance King in terms of work quality, professionalism and trustworthiness. Jim is an extremely knowledgeable and skilled Machinist who works with State of the Art equipment. He and his crew skillfully overhauled the Cylinder Head from my 1967 Mercedes 250SE to Like New condition. This hard to find Cylinder Head had sustained damage way beyond normal wear and tear. I can’t thank them enough.

Amazing service Jim is extremely knowledgeable in all he does doesn't cut corners and always makes sure the job is done right the first time.
